I also think folks should carefully consider the disutility of autocracy by Trump/MAGA in particular. I updated my estimate of the disutility upward heavily after the destruction of USAID, which I don't see being restored under a MAGA autocracy.

I also think this is very important. Besides tractability, one of the strongest arguments against working on it is that wealthy countries do not stay autocratic for long. I'm not an expert, though, but took one of Treisman's classes in which we discussed this a bit.

What happened to the Global Priorities Institute? Given that they published an updated research agenda ~8mo ago, seems somewhat abrupt.

Depends on the cause area!

Alakazam for aligned superintelligence

Blissey for movement building and/or GHD

Would nominate N (human) for animal welfare

Worst forum take of all time, mostly due to this: https://www.cgdev.org/million-lives-risk

This is really awesome! I was hoping someone from EA would implement something like this.

That's right! It seems like only PEPFAR has been waived, not other life-saving programs! I am working on PEPFAR right now but would urge other EAs to contribute to other aid-related causes

Update: Seems like PEPFAR is back for at least 90 days.

Update 2: The waiver only applies to PEPFAR, not other crucial aid programs.

Maybe, though if the pause itself will cause lots of harm, might be too many frictions to do so. Would work better if the ask is "restore PEPFAR after the pause." The other audience to target is pro-life evangelicals, which might be slightly easier on short notice
