I just want to say I really appreciate this post. I have a background in sociology and community organizing that has significantly shaped my worldview, and haven't found a niche in EA that really resonates. It matters to me not just what we accomplish, but also how it changes society long term. Anyways, I'm clicking through several of your links, so thank you for writing this!
Hi and thanks for writing this, obviously I'm quite late to the comments. For context, I'm a white American male with Jewish heritage. I'm surprised there's so little content on this forum about recent escalations in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. The reason this matters to me is because I'm concerned about trying to build a better world, if that world will tolerate genocide. The conflict has crossed a red line for me, and so there would be a gap in integrity of not including this cause as a priority. There are indeed plenty of dark things happening in the world, but for me the Palestinian plight is of tremendous importance. Plenty of smart folks here aren't talking about this though, perhaps I'm thinking too black and white? Or perhaps it's just too difficult to intervene effectively? A valiant effort was made in https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/3fceNPRkSwqTivJJ7/extended-navel-gazing-on-my-2023-donations but ultimately the author ended up funding other things.
