I'm Kamil, I run operations at Apart Research, we run AI safety research hackathons (55+ events, 7,000+ participants).
AI is transforming biology faster than biosecurity can keep up. Open-weight biological foundation models and benchtop DNA synthesizers are making it possible to design novel biological sequences with less expertise than ever. Current screening infrastructure covers only a fraction of global synthesis capacity, and most defensive tools are siloed, under-resourced, or still in the research phase.
We're running the AIxBio Hackathon (April 24-26) with BlueDot Impact and Cambridge Biosecurity Hub, one weekend to build DNA synthesis screening tools, pandemic early warning systems, and biosecurity infrastructure that keeps pace with advancing AI.
Four tracks:
- DNA Screening & Synthesis Controls (sponsored by Cambridge Boston Alignment Initiative, $1,000 prize)
- Benchtop Synthesizer Security (sponsored by Sentinel Bio, $1,000 prize)
- Pandemic Early Warning
- AI Biosecurity Tools
$4,000 in prizes total. No prior biosecurity experience required.
