IMO if AGI goes well for humans then at least it would have a decent grasp for general ethics, which includes animal welfare. AGI that hasn't got good ethics wouldn't benefit human, they'd just paperclip around. Since I have a short-ish timeline, i think somewhat-ethical and empowered AGI will benefit animals more than speciest HGIs.
